Juvenile charged with arson in Burgess store fire

Jackie Nunnery
HEATHSVILLE—Northumberland County Sheriff Johnny Beauchamp on Monday, April 22, announced that a juvenile has been identified and charged with one count of arson in Northumberland County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

The charges stem from an April 8 fire at Dollar General, 15645 Northumberland Highway, Burgess. Investigators determined the fire, which Sheriff Beauchamp said caused an estimated $40,000 in damage, had been intentionally set after examining the scene, interviewing employees and reviewing camera footage.

He indicated the fire caused damage to shelving and merchandise. There was minor smoke damage, he said.
