JV Red Devils post winning spreads over Chargers and Raiders

The junior varsity Red Devils continue to roll by the competition, posting wins over Rappahannock and Middlesex last week while accumulating 59 points more than the competition.

Lancaster was 32 points better than Middlesex last Saturday in a 51-19 win at LHS. BJ Lee scored eight points in the third quarter and finished with 13 to lead the Devils.

Lancaster took a 17-5 lead in the first quarter with Corey Smith and Javian Robinson both drilling three-pointers and Jae’Quan Smith putting up four points.

The Devil defense held Middlesex to three points in the second quarter for a 29-8 halftime lead and shut down the Chargers’ offense in the third with an 18-0 run that lifted Lancaster by 39 heading into the fourth quarter.

Taeshawn Veney spread out eight points for Lancaster, while C. Smith, J. Smith, DeTaye’ Wilson and Darren Lee finished with six points each.

Veney scored 15 points, including eight in Lancaster’s 20-point second quarter, last Friday to lead the Devils in a 60-33 win over Rappahannock.

The Raiders took a three-point lead in the first quarter when Lancaster got off to a slow eight-point start. The Devils picked up the pace in the second with a 20-12 run that gave them a 28-23 lead at the half.

TJ Frisby, Gerrell Moody and Wilson all hit a three-pointer in the third when the Devils went on a 15-6 run that put them ahead by 14. Lancaster held the Raiders to four points in the fourth and outscored the visitors by 13 in the final six minutes with Veney scoring five points and J. Smith four.

Lancaster’s JV Devils will play Northumberland in Claraville tonight, January 19, and Essex in Tappahannock Friday, January 20.
