
MORATTICO—Kay Walters Shelton, 80, of Morattico passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025, after a courageous battle with health.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Albert and Emily Pittman Walters. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 61 years, George W. Shelton; daughter, Stephanie Shelton Harvey and grandchildren, Kaylin Elizabeth Harvey and Carson Wayne Harvey of Mechanicsville.
Kay was blessed to be raised and live her entire life in the village of Morattico on the shores of the Rappahannock. She was a life member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church where she served as church treasurer for 26 years and was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Women.
She was a charter member of the Morattico Waterfront Museum where she served on the museum board of directors and was an active participant in many fundraisers.
At the young age of 21 she began working at Lancaster County Courthouse where she remained her whole career as deputy Commissioner of Revenue. After 42 years of work, she retired in 2007.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, driving to car shows with her husband in their antique cars and spending time with her family and friends. Kay lived a simple but full life in her little village on the river. She will be missed by many.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 13, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, at Currie Funeral Home. Interment followed at Lebanon Baptist Church cemetery in Alfonso.
