‘Kilmarnock Fire Relief’ announced

As many know, Kilmarnock was recently turned upside down on April 19 with a devastating fire. This unimaginable event destroyed local businesses and displaced members of the community and took everything they owned.

“Tragically, this fire also took a life of a community member; our thoughts and prayers are with this family today, tomorrow and forever. The compassion and generosity that has been shown by this community is admirable and Kilmarnock is truly a special place to live and call home,” states a press release issued by the Town of Kilmarnock.

“To everyone who has reached out with offers of help, we can’t thank you enough,” said Mayor Mae Umphlett. “To our Kilmarnock families, we are here for you and are working with community partners to facilitate the overwhelming support from the community.”

Mayor Umphlett has a message for the community members who want to help following Tuesday’s catastrophic and deadly fire on Irvington Road.

“Thank you for the incredible outpouring of love and support. If you would like to make a donation to support the Kilmarnock families there are three easy ways,” she said.

How to help:

• Financial donations may be made directly to River Counties Community Foundation with “Kilmarnock Fire Relief” in the memo line.

Send Checks to: River Counties Community Foundation, PO BOX 54, White Stone, VA 22578

• Gift Cards. Lancaster County Department of Social Services also is accepting donated gift cards. Please list the amount on the card.

• Purchase a #kilmarnockstrong t-shirt from Horn’s Ace Hardware on School Street- all proceeds will go to the victims of the Kilmarnock fire.

An online link will soon be available for donations. All donations are 100% tax deductible. All monies will be used to provide housing assistance and basic living needs.

“We pray for everyone affected by the fires and you all have a community rallying beside all of you. As a very wise man once said ‘This is a minor setback for a major come back!’”

Those with questions may contact  community development coordinator Ashley Jones at 435-1552 X4, [email protected].
