KILMARNOCK—The mayor and town council adopted a resolution Monday night to honor and recognize Kilmarnock police chief Mike Bedell for 30 years of service.
Mayor Mae Umphlett said Bedell has served the citizens of Kilmarnock without interruption since January 6, 1986, when he began his service as a police officer and then was appointed chief on November 25, 1989.
Bedell has served under five mayors and six town managers since being in his position, said Umphlett. He has earned the respect and admiration and affection of the entire town staff to the point of being known and addressed by many of his co-workers as “his chiefness.”
Family, friends and co-workers were in attendance in support and celebration of Bedell.
