Kilmarnock Volunteer Fire Department: 90 years and counting

The Kilmarnock Volunteer Fire Department in February 2022 celebrated 90 years of service, camaraderie, tradition and growth.

Twelve founding members on February 15, 1932, chartered the Kilmarnock Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) with Carroll Saunders serving as its first chief.

However, according to current member and former chief Ed Davis, who’s served within the department for 49 years, KVFD really began to form a year or two prior to the celebrated date.

Davis said volunteers were putting out fires as a unit before 1932, but became more serious and established when the town implemented a water system….
