KPD welcomes new police officer

KILMARNOCK—Richard E. Thomas Jr. recently joined the Kilmarnock Police Department (KPD).

“We are extremely excited that Richard has joined us and is bringing his law enforcement knowledge to Kilmarnock,” said Chief Cliff Dawson.

Thomas, a native of Richmond County, comes to Kilmarnock with a wealth of knowledge in the criminal justice system. He graduated from the Department of Criminal Justice Academy in May 2015 and was a former deputy with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

He also is a certified emergency medical technician and a certified animal control officer. He also has competed the core training program given by The Middle Peninsula Northern Neck Crisis Intervention Team.
