Lady Devils and Bisons repeat state semifinal softball showdown for similar results

Lancaster took the three-and-a-half hour trip back to Buffalo Gap for a state softball quarterfinal game again this year with almost the identical outcome as last.

In 2025, after nearly 25 years of not advancing to the state tournament, a group of mostly freshman players headed out west to face the Bisons, where they lost 7-2. On Tuesday, June 9, the Lady Devils returned to Swoope where they

faced Buffalo Gap a second time in two years in the Virginia High School League Class 1 quarterfinals.

 

Both teams had another year’s worth of experience, but again the home-standing Bisons beat a still young LHS team, 7-1. Buffalo Gap finished as the state runner-up after losing to William Campbell, 10-4, in the state championship.

With two juniors, eight sophomores and a freshman, the Lady Devils are poised to be right back in….
