Lady Devils go 1-1 in region tourney

In her first varsity start, freshman pitcher Blair Smith led Lancaster to its first regional tournament win in 11 years.

Lancaster edged Northampton, 3-1, on the Eastern Shore last Wednesday but went on to lose to Northumberland, 8-1, Friday and exit the Region A softball tournament in the quarterfinal round. The Lady Devils had not won a regional playoff game since 2007.

Smith went seven innings and had five strikeouts in the first round win against Northampton. And behind her, the Lady Devils only committed one error, in their “best defensive game of the year,” said LHS coach William French…
