The Lady Devils won by a run and lost by one to split with West Point High School (WPHS) in a varsity softball double header at Dream Fields last Friday.

After trailing 5-2, Lancaster rallied for four runs in the top of the third to take a 6-5 lead in the first game. The Pointers scored two runs with one out in the bottom of the fifth for a walk-off 7-6 win in the first five-inning game.

However, Ashleigh Sanford pitched a full five innings of scoreless ball in the second game and Lancaster came up with an extra inning run to win, 1-0. After playing to a 0-0 tie in five, Lancaster held WPHS in the top of the sixth and got a one-out single from Rachel Valdrighi in the bottom of the frame. Riley Molineaux bounced a long fly off the center field wall to score Valdrighi from first for the game-winning run.

Molineaux, a sophomore first baseman, and Valdrighi, a junior catcher, are part of coach Doug French’s experienced infield, which includes only one new starter in freshman Katherine Thomas. Starting at second is junior returner Britney Thomas and starting at third is junior returner McKenzie Hathaway…
