Essex took too long to take a shot in the final seconds and Lancaster stripped the ball to hold on for a 49-46 win in a Northern Neck District girls basketball tournament semifinal Monday night.
The Lady Devils, who went 15-4 during the regular season, were scheduled to play Rappahannock in the tournament championship. The Raiderettes beat Colonial Beach, 55-20, in the other semifinal. Lancaster also secured a third place seed in next week’s Region 1A tournament and receives a first-round bye.
