With 17 players, including 10 returners, the Northumberland High School girls soccer team has gotten off to a 4-0 start.
The Lady Indians opened the season Monday, March 11, with a 4-3 overtime win over King William.
Northumberland’s Eliza Leo, with an assist from Ryland Pearson, opened the scoring for both teams at the 13-minute mark. Anya Horner answered for the Cavaliers before Leo hit again to give the Lady Indians a 2-1 lead at the half.
NHS went up 3-1 with Pearson scoring on an assist from Leo before the host Cavaliers scored back-to-back to tie the game and take it into overtime. Leo pushed through the game-winner. Leo finished with a hat trick on 10 shots.
The defense was led by Harmoni Ball with four takeaways and Keyaira Ball with two. NHS goalkeeper A’alayah Johnson had 15 saves.

NHS shut out Middlesex, 7-0, on Wednesday, March 13. Pearson scored her first of two goals for the Indians in the 11th minute on an assist by Leo.
