Lady Indians soccer team remains unbeaten

Northumberland beat Essex, 5-1, in a Northern Neck District girls varsity soccer match last Tuesday to remain unbeaten at 5-0-1.

The district’s two undefeated teams, Washington & Lee and NHS, were scheduled to play Wednesday, April 18.

Cameron Lewis had a hat trick to lead the Lady Indians over Essex. Lewis scored twice in the first half on assists from Shannon Baker and Hannah Loving to help lift NHS, 3-0, at the break.

Tahi Wiggins opened the scoring for the Lady Indians, heading in a corner kick from Lewis six minutes into the game.

Lewis scored her third goal of the night just 75 seconds into the second half off an assist from Loving.

Loving capped the scoring for NHS with 14 minutes remaining.

Renee Meade scored the only goal for Essex.

“This was another strong outing,” said NHS coach Mark Fridenstine. “We are playing very well from top to bottom with excellent play from our mid line, Alice Sisson, McKensey Smithart and Shannon Baker. The defense is led by Grace Emminizer, Erin Burgess and Alex English.”

Against Essex, goalkeeper Addie Swisher and Jean Jett split time with Swisher making one save and Jett three.

The Lady Indians have outscored their opponents 22-3 this season with Lewis leading the scorers with seven goals. Loving has five and Wiggins four.
