Lady Trojans hold court, 43-36

Essex High School took a five-point lead in the first quarter and held off Lancaster for a 43-36 win in a close Northern Neck District varsity girls basketball game last Tuesday.

After a 14-9 first quarter in the Lady Trojans’ favor, the two teams answered each other for an even 7-7 second quarter and a 21-16 Essex lead at the half.

Shamari Garnett and Jaylah Mercer led EHS in the first quarter with six points each and Keimare Gray scored six of the Trojans’ seven in the second.

Aniyah Brown, who led all scorers with 14 points, did the bulk of her work for the Lady Devils in the….
