Lancaster achieves full accreditation for schools

WEEMS—Lancaster schools are fully accredited following a successful appeal of the conditional accreditation earlier listed by the Virginia Board of Education (VBOE).

Superintendent Jessica Davis informed school board members at a Monday, January 12, meeting that “We had one category that we had not had done by April, 2024 and so we marked that we didn’t have it done. Long story short, we were conditionally accredited although we had met everything. The VBOE met last week and “granted our appeal under miscommunication.”

Davis explained the accreditation and accountability measures that were released by the Virginia Department of Education and reported on last month. She also noted the strengths of the division over the last two years, including a 9% increase in the English pass rate, a 12% increase in the English pass rate among Black students, a 7% increase in science pass rates and a 7.3 point decrease in chronic absenteeism from 27% to 19.7%.
