Lancaster board authorizes Tides Inn to develop employee housing

LANCASTER—Despite some opposition, the Lancaster board of supervisors on Thursday, August 25, unanimously approved a special exception request that will allow the Tides Inn to build employee boarding houses on 3-acres zoned general residential off of Weems Road near Gaskins Road. The development will house up to 60 employees once completed.

Described as “Phase I of our employee housing” in a letter written by director of development Marston Smith as part of the application, the 12 two-story buildings would be built on six half-acre lots, clustered into groups of four units, each with a shared parking lot. Plans submitted with the special exception request show each building consisting of five bedrooms with shared living, kitchen, dining and laundry spaces on the first floor.
