Sophomore Matthew Kane led the Lancaster High School boys team and senior Kiera Coleman led the girls Saturday, November 12, at the Class 1 state cross country meet at Green Hill Park in Salem.
Kane finished 25th out of 98 runners in the boys race to lead Lancaster’s team to a seventh place finish. The Red Devils scored 179 points.
Lebanon won the state championship with a low team score of 47 and Region A Mathews was the state runner-up with 80 points. Lancaster had the next best finish among region teams while Middlesex placed ninth with 200 points. Derek Mitchell of Lebanon paced the pack as the individual medalist with a time of 16:14.04.
Seth James of Mathews had the best finish among Region A runners, placing ninth with a time of 17:30.88. West Point’s Corey Daniel followed him across the finish line in 10th place, 17:44.29.
Kane ran the 3.1-mile race on the mountainous course in 18:44.85….
