It was a cold, windy day atop the hill at Arlington National Cemetery last Wednesday when 17 Lancaster High School students paid their respects to America’s fallen heroes.
The LHS Air Force JROTC students took the three-hour bus trip to Northern Virginia to conduct a reverent ceremony, a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
“There are few places that Americans really consider holy, hallowed ground,” said LHS JROTC instructor Lt. Col. R.G. McManus. “This is one of those places.”
Lt. Col. McManus and Master Sgt. Doug French contacted officials at Arlington National Cemetery in June 2016 to request permission to conduct a public wreath laying ceremony at the tomb. They took about half of the school’s 45 JROTC students…
