Lancaster Lions Club announces winners of the James Bland Music Competition

The Lancaster County Lions Club recently announced the winners of the 2025 James Bland Music Competition.

Miriam Elizabeth Sisson was awarded third place in the instrumental category.
London Marie Volpe was awarded first place in the vocalist category.

Following a recital at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury

(RWC), president Fred Pevahouse, chairman of this year’s Bland contest, awarded first place in the vocalist category to London Marie Volpe, messo soprano, from Gloucester High School, who sang Alma de Core by Antonio Caldera.

First place in the instrumental category went to pianist Andrew Robert Fang of Tabb Middle School, who played Beethoven’s Piano Sonata Opus 14 #1, third movement.

Second and third places were awarded to Mathew Qin Sun of Tabb Middle School for Beethoven’s Piano Sonata Opus 13, third movement and Miriam Elizabeth Sisson of Chesapeake Academy, who played Bach’s Minuet in G Minor. Because of the closeness of the judges’ scores….
