Lancaster receives $20,000 to develop mentor program

Superintendent Dan Russell on October 8 informed the school board that Lancaster County Public Schools has received a $20,000 anonymous grant through the River Counties Community Foundation (RCCF) to develop the mentoring program.

“We’re excited to be able to offer this type of program,” said Russell, adding that mentors would “stress the importance of education, hard work and making healthy choices.” Through positive interaction with adults, the schools are hoping to increase academic success and to reduce absenteeism and behavioral referrals among students. They’re also looking for increased parental involvement with the program.
