Lancaster schools prepare for end-of-year SOL testing

LANCASTER—May is right around the corner, which means both the end of the school year and end-of-year assessments for many students.

During the April 8 Lancaster school board meeting, director of student achievement and accountability Anna Kellum said preparations are already underway for the upcoming Standards of Learning (SOL) testing. “Our parents are being notified of the dates and how their students can be successful. Study guides have been sent home and are posted so student and parents can access them.”

An SOL night is being planned for the elementary school “so parents can come in and find out more about SOLs and how they can help their children,” said Kellum.

Teachers also are in the process of giving students the final growth assessment of the year. “This assessment mirrors the SOL test in content,” said Kellum. The report will allow teachers to target specific skills….
