Lancaster to send nine girls to state track meet

Middlesex High School won the Region 1A girls meet scoring 126 points to best 11 scoring teams.

Rappahannock was the runner-up with 105.5 and Northampton third, 77. Host Charles City scored 62 points for fourth and Lancaster had 59 points for fifth. Northumberland was sixth with 48.5 points, Westmoreland seventh, 46; West Point eighth, 38; Mathews and King & Queen tied for ninth, 29 points each; and Essex was 11th, 17.

Lancaster will send nine girls to compete in eight different events this weekend at the Virginia High School League Class 1 state meet in Harrisonburg. Qualifying in three events each were Rory Lally and Grace Lawrence. Lally was the only regional champion on the LHS girls team. She won both the 800 and 1600 meter runs and will compete in those races as well as run a leg of the 4X400 meter relay team, which finished as the region runner-up…
