LANCASTER—The Lancaster County Board of Supervisors on Thursday, April 24, conducted a public hearing on a proposed $50.5 million county budget for fiscal year 2025-26, representing an increase of $141,562 or .2% from the current budget.
As proposed, the budget is based on a real estate tax rate of $0.57 per $100 of assessed value, representing an increase of $.02.
During the hearing, Howard Kyzer urged the board to control county expenses and stop “burning through money.”
Carla Beale asked when the county would look at other forms of revenue rather than relying on real estate and personal property.
County administrator Don Gill noted the current $0.55 per $100 of assessed value “is the lowest real estate tax of any of the adjacent counties.” In comparison, Northumberland County is at $.61 per $100.
