Lancaster’s soccer climb is eliminated by penalty kick, 4-3

by Lisa Hinton-Valdrighi

The Conference #43 soccer “play-in” match was decided by a couple of penalty kicks.

Fourth-seeded Rappahannock County knocked Lancaster out of the conference tournament Monday night with a 4-3 win in Washington.

Lancaster’s Henry Smith and Evan Steensma both scored in the first half to give the Devils a 2-1 lead at the break.

The Panthers scored two early in the second half and Lancaster’s Prashes Bhandari slipped a shot in the goal to bring up a 3-3 tie when Rappahannock County was called for a foul in the box to bring up a penalty kick by Prabesh Bhandari. Prabesh Bhandari missed the free kick and then Lancaster was called for a foul in the box and the Panthers scored the game winner on a penalty kick.

“It wasn’t how we wanted to finish the season,” said LHS coach Traci Ford.
