Legislature approves $206 billion budget compromise

RICHMOND—Following weeks of back and forth in conference committee and a looming June 30 deadline, both the House and Senate on Monday, June 22, adopted a $206 billion budget in a special session. The budget bill is now on Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s desk where she can veto, suggest changes or sign. The budget process must be finalized by July 1 when the new fiscal year begins.

“There is a lot to be proud of in this budget. It delivers raises for our teachers and public employees, makes new investments in our schools, includes a RGGI (Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative) credit for residential customers and small businesses and takes other tangible steps to make Virginia more affordable—all while protecting families from the devastating cuts in the so-called ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’,” Gov.
