LES Choir opens for NNO

The Lancaster Elementary School Choir, under the direction of Destiny Carter, received a standing ovation for its performance of the 1848 Shaker song “Simple Gifts” at a sold-out concert of the Northern Neck Orchestra on Sunday, January 18. The song appears in Aaron Copland’s suite “Appalachian Spring,” which the NNO performed at the concert. The NNO’s next concert, on March 7 at the Lancaster Elementary School Theater, 191 School Street, Kilmarnock, will feature Felix Mendelssohn’s “Symphony No. 5,” Carlos Simon’s “Amen,” Adolphus Hailstock’s “Three Spirituals” and James Johnson’s “Victory Stride.” Tickets are $40 at www.northernneckorchestra.org, or the door.  Photo by Michael Geissenger
