
A select group of Lancaster Elementary School (LES) seventh graders last month continued a tradition of reading aloud to Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) 3 and 4 year-olds. This tradition began as an idea from ECEC coordinator Amanda Ambrose and LES English teacher Dawn Marie Ickes three years ago.
The seventh graders were chosen by their strengths of exhibiting positive role model traits as students at LES, said Ickes. These students were chosen in sixth grade to lead the way their next year.
While there are benefits to the younger children that are being read to, the older children doing the reading benefit too, with increases in self-esteem and leadership….
