LHS athletes qualify for state indoor track meet in 13 events

With the Class 1 track meet still a month away, Lancaster High School has already secured multiple spots in the state competition.

The Red Devils girls and boys teams have eight competitors meeting state qualifying criteria in 13 events. Four of those met pre-qualifying standards last weekend at an indoor meet at Boo Williams sports complex in Hampton.

Sophomores William Ball and Brooks Parker joined senior Matthew Kane in qualifying for the pole vault. Kane is a middle/long distance runner and pole vaulter who has already qualified for the state meet in four events, including the 500, 1000 and 1600 meter runs and the pole vault. Last Friday in Hampton, he won both the 1000 (2:41.75) and the 1600 (4:41.58).

Ball state qualified with a winning 9’6” pole vault and Parker cleared 9’0” even. Parker is also a middle/long distance runner and runs a leg of Lancaster’s relay teams.
