LHS boys win Region 1A track championship

The Lancaster High School boys track team has collected two first-place trophies in two weeks and hopes to make it a triple victory by repeating as the Virginia High School League Class 1 state champion this weekend in Harrisonburg.

The LHS boys claimed a third straight Region 1A title on May 22 at Charles City, producing six individual champions and scoring 133 points to beat out 10 other teams. Lancaster will have competitors in 15 of the 17 events at the state meet. The Red Devils were the 2023 boys state champions and won the Class 1 championship in 2019.

“The goal again is to place in all of the events we’re in. We do that and I think we have a good chance of repeating,” said LHS coach Draper Washington. “Our goal is to place in as many events as we can and to place high.”
