Mathews scored 21 points in both the boys and girls races for a dual cross country victory over Lancaster in the Red Devils first home meet of the season.
The Blue Devils had its five scorers in each race finish among the top seven with Cameron Stearns winning the boys race in 18:48.
Lancaster senior Michael Foulkes was the runner-up on the 3.1-mile course at Hills Quarter subdivision near Kilmarnock. He ran a 20:29 race. There were 22 runners in the varsity boys race, including harriers from Essex, King & Queen, Northumberland and Washington & Lee. However, Mathews and Lancaster had the only complete teams in both races.
Lancaster senior Hailey Smith led 20 varsity runners to win the girls race. She finished sixth overall with a time of 22:06 and finished 2:17 faster than girls runner-up Adelle Hudgins of Mathews.
Lancaster scored 40 points in the boys race with its five scorers finishing in the top 12. The LHS girls team scored 37 points with all its scorers among the top 11…[to-view-more]
