LHS girls leap to second, boys sprint to fourth in five-team meet

Hailey Smith won two events and Tanashia Henderson one to help lead Lancaster to a second place team finish in a five-team meet at Middlesex last Thursday.

Varina High School scored 98 points to win the girls meet and 85.5 to win the boys meet.

Lancaster was the runner-up in the girls meet with 74 points, host Middlesex was third with 52, King William fourth, 46, and Rappahannock fifth, 28.

In the boys meet, Middlesex finished second with 77 points, King William third with 67, Lancaster fourth, 63, and Rappahannock fifth, 36.5.

Smith, Lancaster’s distance runner, won the 800-meter race in 2:28.33 and the mile in 6:24.25.
