It’s taken 21 years for Lancaster to win the regional golf championship, and it took four freshmen golfers to do it.

Despite having very successful individual state competitors over the last two decades, Lancaster last won the regional team championship in 1998, according to school records.

The Red Devils scored a team low 337 Monday at Hobbs Hole Golf Course in Tappahannock for the Region 1A championship behind the play of freshman golfer of the year Colby Sullivan. Sullivan claimed his second postseason medal in two weeks Monday, shooting a 1-over-par 72 as the Region 1A individual medalist. He is also the Northern Neck District tournament champ.

Additionally, Sullivan was selected by coaches as the region’s golfer of the year and LHS coach Rich Ford was chosen by his peers as the coach of the year.

Lancaster’s team, along with runner-up Essex, will advance to the Class 1 state tournament…
