LHS runners place near the front in 5K

A couple of Lancaster High School runners raced to the finish line ahead of the pack in the eighth annual Transitions 5K last Saturday in Hampton.

LHS sophomore De’Avion Harding, 15, of Kilmarnock was the overall runner-up in the men’s race. Senior Zach Kane, 16, of Lancaster won the men’s 19 and under division.

The race was held on the Matteson Trail at The Hampton’s Golf Course and was organized by Transitions Family Violence Services, dedicated to ending domestic violence. The race was conducted and results generated by the Peninsula Track Club.

Sixty-three runners started the race with 49 completing the course.

Christopher Cox, 37, of Norfolk was the overall winner in the men’s race with a time of 18:00 flat. Harding was the runner-up with a time of 20:27.

Kane was the 19 and under division winner with a time of 20:39. His time was also good enough for fourth overall in the men’s race.

Both Harding and Kane run cross country and track for LHS.
