School just let out for the summer but thoughts may already be turning to the fall sports season.
According to Lancaster High School (LHS) athletic director Dave Zeiler, many student-athletes playing fall sports will begin practice in late July.
There will be a golf team meeting for golfers in grades 9 through 12 at 3 p.m. July 27 at the Golden Eagle Golf Course in Irvington. Practice will begin at 3 p.m. July 30 at the Golden Eagle.
Red Devils junior varsity (JV) and varsity football players will start practice at LHS on July 27. Practice will be from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Tryouts will be held for the JV and varsity volleyball teams in the LHS gymnasium from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. August 6 and 7. Prior to tryouts, prospective players are urged to follow a pre-season training regimen, according to coach Keegan Walters. Interested players also are urged to attend weight lifting sessions at the LHS weight room from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, beginning July 16.
Players must have a completed Virginia High School League (VHSL) physical exam before attending practice or pre-season training sessions, said Zeiler. VHSL sports physical forms may be picked up from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays at LHS, or printed directly from vhsl.org.
Practice schedules for cheerleading squads and the cross country team have yet to be set, said Zeiler.
