Lloyd Earl Wise

Lloyd Earl Wise

LELAND, NC—Lloyd Earl Wise, 84, of Leland, N.C., loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 11, 2022, after a brief battle with lung cancer.

Earl was born December 20, 1938, in Monumental, W.Va., to the late Robert Earl Wise and Betty Costello Wise. Earl was raised in the house he was born in, and he graduated from Barrackville High School in 1955.

After being discharged from the Army, Earl married his sweetheart, Karen Brown of Fairmont, W.Va. They moved to Northern Virginia in 1960 where Earl worked for Giant Food. He then worked for the Washington Gas Light Company for 34 years.

He retired in 1997 and moved to Reedville, where he loved life living on the Chesapeake Bay. Earl and Karen enjoyed entertaining friends and boating on the bay.

Earl was an avid fisherman who loved to take his sons and grandsons fishing on the bay. He also was an accomplished wood worker and someone who could fix just about anything.

Earl’s strong work ethic, generosity and quiet strength made him an inspiration to those around him. Earl was always quick to lend a hand to family and neighbors whenever he could.

Earl is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Karen, to whom married for 61 years. Earl is also survived by his sons, Scott, Doug and Dan; as well as his grandsons, Christopher, Joey and Andrew. Earl was most proud of his sons; but his grandsons really melted his heart. Pop Pop taught all three of the boys how to fish, ride a bike, tie their shoes, hit a baseball and drive a riding mower, among other things.

In lieu of flowers the family would prefer memorial donations be made to the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum, https://rfmuseum.org/.

The family will be holding a private celebration of life.
