Local gymnastics earn awards at Wide World of Sports meet

The Xcel Gymnastics Team, sponsored by the Middlesex Department of Parks and Recreation and coached by Amanda Weston and Meaghan Koehler, competed at the Presidental Classic at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida, on February 19.

“The gymnasts did very well for the big stage they were on,” said team mother Jennifer Booker.

Overall, there were about 3,000 gymnasts at the meet in the Xcel division and the Levels 3-10 divisions. This was the first Capital Cup for the team.

Eleven gymnasts competed in the Bronze and Silver divisions in their respective age groups. The Silver Team brought home the 7th place banner along with most of the gymnasts bringing home medals for their individual events.
