Lois S. Kellum

WEEMS—Lois Sauer Kellum, 83, of Weems passed peacefully on Thursday, June 25, 2020.

Lois was born in Baltimore and moved to Weems in 1950. She was a faithful member of Claybrook Baptist Church in Weems, serving in numerous positions over the years.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara K. Thomas and her husband, Kevin; and a son, James Curtis “Jimmy” Kellum and his wife, Brenda. She had four grandchildren, Katie M. Lamkin and her husband, Robbie; Erin K. Gutknecht and her husband, Rob; Megan M. Sickles and her husband, Page; and James Ross Kellum and his wife, Elizabeth. She had 10 great-grandchildren: Emma, Kelsie, Easton, Allison, Riley, Leah, Brianna, Ellery, Piper and Daphne. She is also survived by two sisters, Ruth S. Whay and Dale S. Mays; and one brother, Stanley B. Sauer.

She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Curtis E. Kellum; and her parents, Wendel and Elsie Sauer.

Lois and Curtis got married in 1955, and shortly after that, Lois started working as a bookkeeper at W. Ellery Kellum, Inc., continuing to work there for 37 years. After their retirement, Lois and Curtis traveled extensively, both domestically and abroad. They also took many “picking” trips, collecting oyster cans and other items of interest. Lois was particularly interested in Texaco memorabilia since her father ran a Texaco service station, and memorabilia from Sauer spices and extracts, since that was her maiden name (although there was no family connection).

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Claybrook Baptist Church, 2242 Weems Road, Weems. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 29, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock.

The soloist was Herbert “Big Boy” Blake. Pallbearers were Brandon Kellum, Jeff Kellum, Tommy Kellum, Robbie Lamkin, Sam Lewis, Steve Newcomb, Page Sickles and Carroll Whay, Jr.

Memorial contributions can be made to Claybrook Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P O Box 15, Weems, VA 22576.
