Lundy and Jones win top district honors

Junior Tyreek Lundy, who recently surpassed the 1,000-point career scoring mark and led Northumberland to a 14-3 record as the top seed in the region, was named the Northern Neck District player of the year and Indians coach Kyle Jones was chosen coach of the year.

Northumberland won its first round Region 1A tournament game, 70-54, over Essex on February 24 to advance and host a semifinal game against Mathews, which was a 57-54 winner over Westmoreland.

Lancaster defeated Northampton, 55-42, in a regional quarterfinal to move on to a semifinal game against Middlesex, which beat Chincoteague, 66-37, in another quarterfinal. The semifinal games were scheduled for Wednesday, February 26, and the winners meet in the championship game at 6 p.m. Friday, February 28, at the site of the higher seed….
