LANCASTER—Malissa Ficklin Jackson, 85 of Lancaster passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at home surrounded by family.

Born in Richmond on March 23, 1939, to Lewson S. and Emma Barrack Ficklin, she grew up with her brother Thomas and sister Frances in the Lancaster area. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Malissa worked in her younger years at the Federal Reserve Bank in Richmond. This was a job she loved and was proud of. Malissa was an excellent cook and had a love of baking goodies for the family to enjoy. Sewing and quilting were some of her favorite ways to pass her free time. Later on in her life, she enjoyed antiquing and always loved going to her nephew’s auctions in Tappahannock. She didn’t miss many of them.

Malissa is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-laws, Edward Mark Jackson (Vicki) of Aylett and David Prince Jackson (Darlene) of Lively; her daughter and son-in-law Andrea Michelle Jackson Pittman (Mark) of Charlottesville; six grandchildren, James and Jack Jackson, April and Ty Pittman, Trevor and Patrick Jackson; two step-grandchildren, Justin Culpepper and Amber M. Cooper (Austin); and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Frances Ficklin Durham; and brother, Thomas Dorsey Ficklin.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. Interment followed at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lancaster. The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 7, at the funeral home.
