March Arts Alive will showcase plein air projects and tools

The March Arts Alive exhibit at the Northumberland Public Library, 7204 Northumberland Highway, Heathsville, will be a showcase of plein air artists from Northumberland, Lancaster, Westmoreland and Fredericksburg.

To mark the show’s opening, The Friends of the Library will sponsor a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 3.

There will be around 30 works on view, plus a plein air easel set up to show how compact the outdoor work kit can be, said exhibit coordinator Cate Kauffman. There will be at least six artists represented and maybe as many at 10. One artist, who lives in St. Thomas, did some plein air work locally while visiting the Northern Neck.

“The idea behind the show is to educate people about what plein air painting is and is not,” said Kauffman. “We hope to encourage folks who want to give it a try; to provide contact information so they can hook up with the Northern Neck Plein Air Group.”

The group will resume outdoor (plein air) painting in March.

Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
