
LANCASTER—Maria Grace Givens, 74, formerly of Lancaster County, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
Maria was born in Richmond on July 29, 1951, and was the daughter of the late Frank Spencer Givens Jr. and Florence Louise Givens. She was a graduate of Highland Springs High School and received a bachelor’s in education from Longwood University and a master’s from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Maria was a lifelong educator in Culpepper County and Lancaster County. She had been both a guidance counselor and a teacher of Spanish and French. Maria loved to travel and experience new cultures.
Maria was predeceased by her brother, F. Spencer Givens III; her sister-in-law, Ann Givens; and her brother-in-law, Dr. Richard Giles.
Surviving are her sister, Linda Givens Giles; and her brother, Walter Preston Givens (Carole). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She loved to share pictures of her family.
Maria was well respected in the Northern Neck. She was a proud member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Bethel United Methodist Church and the Upper Lancaster Ruritan Club. She had a group of friends called The Lunch Bunch who were very dear to her.
Her family appreciates the loving care she received at Autumn Care in Mechanicsville.
