Marion J. “Joe” Brooks

KING GEORGE—Marion Joseph “Joe” Brooks of King George died July 14, 2019.

Mr. Brooks was born August 13, 1924, to Marion T. and Emma J. Brooks in Jersey. After completing high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and fought in World War II in France and throughout Europe. He was honorably discharged in September 1945.

He drove a bus for the King George Public School System for 18 years, owned a logging business for nearly 20 years, farmed over 500 acres for nearly 50 years and worked with Lee Funeral Services for over 50 years. In 1963, Mr. Brooks went to work for the Naval Civil Ordinance in Indian Head, Md., and retired in 1989 after 26 years of service.

He was a member of Salem Baptist Church, King George. He also was a Mason and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary B. (Smith) Brooks; and children, John Brooks, Steven Brooks and Gloria Abdullah; 18 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by their children, Cassie Brooks Fortune and Martha Harvey.

A funeral was held Saturday, July 20, at Salem Baptist Church, King George. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
