Martin A. “Marty” Dowling

Martin A. “Marty” Dowling

FT. LAUDERDALE, FLA.—After a short-term illness, Martin A. “Marty” Dowling passed away peacefully on June 12, 2019.

Marty was born and went to school in Jackson, Mich., and spent much time in East Lansing where he had many friends and loads of fun. He was an avid reader and a pretty fair golfer in his day.

After “tolerating” the cold weather for “too long,” he moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. There he met and worked with a new group of friends who remained so throughout the years. He later moved to St. Thomas, USVI, where, among other things, he worked for American Express, island hopping by ferry to service his clients, who always had a cold beer at the ready. After several years Marty returned to Florida and found employment at Winners World, Johnnies Rec Room and Four Corners Bingo where he was said to be extremely personable and very well liked. No surprise there.

In his mother’s hand-crafted obituary in April 2016, she referred to Marty as “my one-of-a-kind son.” And that he was. Marty always marched to his own drummer, had amazing charisma and a wicked sense of humor. Friends and family will have a great time swapping stories at a remembrance event at the Bushwhacker in Ft. Lauderdale soon.

Preceding him in death were his father, Albert Dowling; mother, Patricia Dowling Gutekunst; and brother, Greggory Dowling.

Staying behind are his loving sister, Barbara Dowling Glickstein (Todd) of Towles Point, Lancaster; his faithful friend, Chuck Hall; and many other friends who made Marty a wealthy man.

We have and will continue to miss you.
