Mary N. Foster

RICHMOND—Mary Nolde Foster of Richmond passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018. She was born June 26, 1923, the daughter of the late Henry Adam Nolde and Josephine Black Nolde.

She also was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Merritt W. Foster Jr.; and sister, June Nolde Butler.

She is survived by her son, Merritt W. Foster III of Richmond; sister, Anna Nolde McKenney of Richmond; many devoted nieces and nephews; and a special family friend, Pamela Braxton.

Mrs. Foster was born and raised in Richmond. She was a graduate of Collegiate School for Girls and Hollins College. Throughout her life, Mrs. Foster was a dedicated community volunteer. She was a former member on the board of trustees of The Virginia Home and also Collegiate School for Girls.

A talented flower arranger, she was a member of The Boxwood Garden Club of The Garden Club of Virginia and a former chairman of Historic Garden Week in Virginia.

Raised in the Lutheran church, Mrs. Foster later became a longtime member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Richmond.

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 10, at Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Virginia Home, 1101 Hampton Street, Richmond, Va. 23220.
