Mary P. Bryant

MOLLUSK—Mary Potter Bryant of Mollusk was born on April 14, 1924. She went home to be with the Lord on May 5, 2018.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Potter Sr.; her husband, Warren E. Bryant; and six brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her sister, Naomi Urban; her two children, William “Billy” Bryant (Frances) and Patsy B. Clarke (R D); four grandchildren, Robbie Clarke, Jessica Vanlandingham, William Bryant Jr. and Hannah B. Harrelson; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mary lived her whole life within a few miles of where she was born. When Mary was a young girl, she waded for soft crabs on the Rappahannock River for money.

She married W.E. Bryant on February 28, 1944. She worked on her father-in-law’s farm their first years of marriage; they actively used horses in their work. Later, she worked in the tomato canning factory peeling tomatoes. Mary also shucked oysters with her Dad and worked for The Levi Strauss Factory in Warsaw.

During all these years, she worked in her large garden, freezing and canning vegetables and raising chickens. After the death of her husband, she worked in the kitchen at Lancashire Nursing Home in Kilmarnock.

The later part of her life was spent babysitting her great grandchildren. Mary spent her life serving and loving her family. She was a Proverbs Thirty-One woman. She will be missed by her family and those who know Christ as their Lord and Savior will see her again.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock. Interment followed the service at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Lively. Family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
