IRVINGTON—Mary Reynolds Pittman, 94, of Irvington passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022.
She is survived by her sons, William H. Pittman (Brenda) of Weems and Robert A. Pittman of Lancaster; daughter, Cynthia P. Bishop (Warren) of White Stone; grandchildren, Megan P. Sanders (Mitch) of Fort Mill, S.C., Chad and Wade Bishop, both of Kilmarnock, and Jeff Pittman (Lyndsey) of Gallatin, Tenn.; great grandchildren, Addison and Avery Sanders, Abigail, Sydney and Brady Pittman; sisters, Lucille Christopher of Irvington and Hazel Christopher of Kimberly, Wis.; several nieces and nephews and two special caregivers, Taneika Brooks Drake and Scarlot Boyd.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Pierce Pittman; parents, Carroll and Zora Reynolds; brothers, Richard, Beale, Marion, John and Thomas Reynolds; and sister, Elizabeth R. Gates.
Mary worked for over 40 years at Hubbard Insurance Agency and was an active member of Irvington United Methodist Church for many, many years.
She loved to bake and cook for the elderly and shut-ins. Mary was known in the community as “the chicken and rice soup lady.” Everyone thought she made the best! She would keep a cup for herself and give the rest away.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, at Irvington United Methodist Church, Irvington. Interment followed at White Marsh Cemetery in Lancaster. The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday, December 19.
