HARRISONBURG—Mary Robbins Simmons, 77, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2018, at her daughter’s home in Harrisonburg.
Mary was born in Blowing Rock, N.C., on March 8, 1940. She spent most of her life in Richmond.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George Thomas and Katherine Robinson Robbins; and sister, Rena.
Mary is survived by her brother, Thomas Eugene Robbins of La Conner, Wash.; twin sister, Marian Robbins Rosenberg of Charlotte, N.C.; son, Warren L. Simmons of Colonial Heights; daughter, Kristine Simmons Peifer and husband, Tim, of Harrisonburg; daughter, Jan Simmons Abbott and husband, Richard, of Weems; and her beloved grandchildren, Zackary Simmons, Reannen Stephenson, Emma Peifer, Jordan Abbott and Joshua Abbott.
Mary retired from the Department of Labor as a statistical analyst. She was a graduate of Longwood College and later completed a master’s at Virginia Tech. She loved to spend her free time reading, gardening, cooking, watching her grandchildren’s sporting events and was an avid supporter of the Virginia Tech Hokies.
A memorial celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Muhlenberg Lutheran Church in Harrisonburg. The family will greet visitors prior to the service.
