The Northern Neck Master Gardeners will host a presentation by Peggy Singlemann, Maymont Foundation’s director of horticulture and operations, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, at Cobham Park Baptist Church, 120 Islington Road, Warsaw.
Singlemann has designed, planted and maintained historic and specialty gardens at the 100-acre Maymont estate for more than 30 years. The presentation will focus on Singlemann’s work at Richmond’s Maymont Park.
“We were impressed when we saw Peggy at Master Gardener College and are delighted that she can join us to share her amazing experience restoring the Maymont Gardens,” said Tami McCauley, programs co-chairman and past president. “We hope that everyone will come out to hear her inspiring story that touches on gardening and garden restoration, making a vision become reality and harnessing the vital role of volunteers in caring for every aspect of Maymont and its evolution over the decades.”
Singlemann is host of “Virginia Home Grown” on PBS station WCVE. She lectures throughout the mid-Atlantic region, has been published in local and national periodicals, and writes blog posts for Maymont and “Virginia Home Grown.”
She is a member of the Central Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association, the International Society of Arboriculture, the Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association, the Virginia Society of Landscape Designers, the Virginia Native Plant Society and the Southern Garden History Society.
Singlemann was named Professional of the Year in 2016 by the Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association, and she has been recognized by the Central Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association with an annual scholarship named in her honor.
