Mindful Nutrition series will meet on Wednesdays

Tara Haislip, Certified Nutrition and Wellness Coach and owner of TENHealth & Wellness, and Jennifer Pittman-Dixon, Nurse Practitioner, have partnered to teach a Mindful Nutrition course. Classes will be held in 4-week sessions each month.

Participants will learn about nutrition for improving health and managing diseases from diabetes and heart disease to depression and anxiety, reported Pittman-Dixon.

The courses are purely educational and are neither promoting a particular diet nor selling any products, she said. Participants will be given a weekly goal and at the end of the 4-week series, each participant will receive an individualized nutrition assessment. The class will also include information on making safe food choices, knowing where food comes from and ways to decrease exposure to toxins in the diet.

Haislip obtained her certification in April 2017 from American Fitness Professionals & Associates. Her background includes a bachelor’s in 2008 as a modern dance performance major from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Her dance career spanned 18 years as she worked with various artists in Philadelphia and New York City, as well as international artists.

Upon marrying a Lottsburg native, she decided to turn her second passion into a business teaching people how to take control of their health through diet, exercise and mindful well-being. She eventually wants to develop TENHealth & Wellness into an Ayurveda Health Practice that provides Ayurveda Health Counseling and Ayurveda Yoga Therapy.

Pittman-Dixon is a Nurse Practitioner specializing in psychiatry and has done extensive research on nutrition over the past five years that includes preventing, managing and reversing disease as well as exploring the corruption in the food industry and unsafe practices that are a major contributor to current health crises and high rates of disease.

The first 4-week series will be held from 6-7 p.m. Wednesdays beginning September 12-October 3 at the Bay Center for Spiritual Development, 31 Noblett Lane, Kilmarnock. A new series will begin every 4 weeks and will be held every Wednesday thereafter through November.

The fee is $10 to drop in for a class or $35 for the 4-week series. To register, email [email protected], or call TENHealth & Wellness at 919-599-1983.
