WICOMICO CHURCH—Minoo Noshir Dastoor, 84, of Wicomico Church died peacefully at his home on December 8, 2023.

He was born on August 21, 1939, in Bombay, India. Minoo would never call his birthplace Mumbai. He came to the United States at the age of 21 to continue his education. He arrived in this country with two masters’ degrees. One of his favorite memories was seeing the Statue of Liberty for the first time at the end of his journey.

Minoo earned a doctorate in medical microbiology and immunology from the University of California in Los Angeles. He was a brilliant scientist and worked for the Jet Propulsion Lab in Pasadena, Calif., and NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. He traveled all over the world for work and pleasure. He retired in 2013 to live full time at his Chesapeake Bay home with his life partner, Brenda Smith.

Minoo was a much loved, gentle man with a quick wit and extraordinary sense of humor. He touched lives and brought smiles wherever he went. He was an avid member of the YMCA in Kilmarnock and went there seven days a week.

He met Brenda, the love of his life, thanks to a persistent friend of both who refused to take no for an answer when she was determined to introduce them.

Preceding him in death were both his parents and his ex-wife, Marguerite Dastoor.

Left to mourn his death are his beloved life partner, Brenda; two daughters, Shiraz Fagan (Brian) and Khori Dastoor (Ben Joaquin); two stepchildren, Nichelle Anne Smith (Shannon) and Mark Allen Smith; and 10 grandchildren: Colin and Brady Fagan; Saroya and Simone Gouveneur, Forrest, Chloe, Autumn, River, Marcus and Noah Smith.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
